Climate bill ignores economic realities

Story tools:

One feature of the Waxman-Markey Bill, which just passed in the House of Representatives, is that it attempts to bring all American housing standards into line with California’s environmental standards. California is now looking at a $24 billion budget deficit when compared to the state’s gross domestic product.

In light of the massive increases in government spending as of late, it would seem as though the last thing Americans need to be doing is emulating any actions that may have contributed to driving the state of California into insurmountable debt.

This, coupled with the fact that the bill promises innovation and job creation in one sector of the economy at the cost of innovation and job loss in almost all others, provides sufficient evidence to say that this climate change bill is out of touch with several economic realities.
