Not everyone is against Authority property plan
A well-written letter in the Aug. 8 column prompted me to come forward regarding the Columbus Parkway property slated for use by the Peace Bridge Authority. Everything the writer notes is valid. The neighborhood has drug rings, prostitution and felony-level thievery. It is not a place for children or seniors. The preservationists call the property a part of Prospect Hill, but the homes are in shambles and the better and/or historic ones, it appears, won’t be touched. Not every old thing is worth keeping.
For my own part, I have been attending meetings with regard to Peace Bridge expansion for 13 years. I favored the expansion even when the acquisition of my property was not a part of the plan. It became a part of the plan eventually and everything has gone sideways or downhill from there. What is wrong with this city when time and time again decisions are left swinging in the wind along with its taxpayers? What good do grants do if the property isn’t worthy of preserving?
We used to have the Episcopal Church Home as an anchor, but even it recognized the decline and left. Has the property been purchased?
So, if I am regarded as a “betrayer of the neighborhood,” shame on the naysayers. I pay taxes, too, and I am a part of the majority that won’t be silenced.
