T. O.’s story echoes Montana, Gretzky
So, with Reality T. O. in full swing and the Bills training camp soon to be, it started me thinking about what other cities have experienced similar instances of a superstar coming to town, somewhat unexpectedly, changing the landscape of the upcoming season.
Would it be like Shaq going to Phoenix/Cleveland or Gretzky going to L. A.?How about A-Rod going to Texas/New York or Ken Griffey Jr. leaving Seattle for Cincinnati back in the day?
The best example I came up with was when Joe Montana left San Francisco and headed to Kansas City, a small, football crazy town suddenly thrown into the spotlight of pro football with fans fully anticipating a rejuvenation of sorts for their beloved team. It could happen here.
Terrell Owens will certainly bring attention to the Bills, hopefully for all of us fans, a positive attention. Until further notice, we should embrace him as one player that could provide some needed excitement to a somewhat underachieving, boring football team. More wins would obviously help but I’ll take a 7-9 or 8-8 season with more highlight reel plays than one without, as has been the case recently. T. O. can certainly provide that and who knows, he may reverse some of his past indiscretions and be a positive influence on the psyche of the city. We can only hope.
So, Terrell, if you’re reading this, welcome! Give us everything you have and you’ll win our hearts. Win us some games and your legacy in this town will be solid.
