Jerry Sullivan
Sullivan: Plenty left for Bills to play for
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — George Wilson made the shift from wide receiver to defensive back after Dick Jauron took over the Bills. Jauron gave Wilson a viable position, a professional identity. He identified him as a leader. So it was especially difficult for Wilson to see his coach sent packing last week. (Updated: 11/22/09 12:40 AM )
Sullivan: Brandon is conspicuous by his absence
When the first text message of the day arrived from the Bills on Wednesday morning, I
figured, "This is it. They're finally going to bring in Russ Brandon to talk about Dick Jauron
getting fired." (Updated: 11/20/09 9:53 PM )
Jerry Sullivan: Dear Ralph: No more football on the cheap
A couple of weeks ago, during his belated Hall of Fame ring ceremony in the stadium that
bears his name, Ralph Wilson told Bills fans that he was still committed to bringing a Super
Bowl winner to Buffalo. (Updated: 11/20/09 9:53 PM )
Sullivan: High pick in cards for Bills
Seeking to collect my thoughts after the debacle in Nashville, I stopped off at Cole's for a
cold one late Monday afternoon. I found my old pal, Rex Carr, seated in his customary spot at
the far end of the bar. (Updated: 11/17/09 1:52 AM )
Sullivan: QB strategy amounts to convince and repeat
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — One of the toughest things for Bills fans, I imagine, is the gnawing
redundancy of it all. After a decade of futility, the circumstances of defeat begin to repeat
themselves. A loss feels vaguely familiar, like something grasped at the bottom of a dusty old
trunk in the attic. (Updated: 11/16/09 1:45 PM )
Sullivan: Fisher's run is definition of continuity
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — It's amazing how quickly fortunes can turn in the NFL. One year ago this weekend, the Titans won at Jacksonville to reach 10-0. They were the talk of the league, the favorite to win the Super Bowl. Jeff Fisher was getting overdue recognition as one of the best coaches in the game. (Updated: 11/16/09 1:45 PM )
Jerry Sullivan: As T. O. fades Bills should look at Hardy
Late Wednesday morning, the Bills’ media were escorted to the practice field for their allotted 15 minutes of viewing time. It was soon apparent that Terrell Owens was not practicing. He was nowhere to be found. Naturally, we suspected the worst. (Updated: 11/15/09 12:42 AM )

Sullivan: Sabres left behind in trying to step up
Lindy Ruff didn't bother addressing his team after this one. The Sabres were outplayed,
outworked and outclassed in Friday night's 5-2 loss to the Flyers. Ruff let them talk it out
among themselves. Evidently, Mike Grier did most of the talking. (Updated: 11/07/09 12:53 AM )
Sullivan: 'The Boss' should have been there
I'll be honest. I missed him Wednesday night. In the aftermath of the Yankees' 27th World
Series championship, I found myself wishing for one of those classic scenes of George
Steinbrenner, exulting in front of the TV cameras as his team sprayed champagne in the
victorious locker room. (Updated: 11/08/09 12:01 AM )
Sullivan: Biron-Sabres reunion would fit like a glove
Last July, after Martin Biron became a free agent, he drove his wife, Anne Marie, and three
children from Philadelphia to Buffalo. Biron got off Interstate 90 at the Pembroke exit so he
could take a nice, leisurely drive through the country roads. (Updated: 11/08/09 12:01 AM )
Sullivan: Bills could use blast from Super Bowls past
Thank heavens for the bye week. We can all use a week off from the Bills' mind-numbing run of
brutal, boring offense. If it's any consolation, things are equally dreary at the other end of
Lake Erie, where the Browns also arrive at the bye with a dysfunctional offense and an angry,
disaffected fan base. (Updated: 11/08/09 12:01 AM )
Sullivan: This mess comes straight from Jauron playbook
Well, at least Ralph Wilson finally got his Hall of Fame ring. Once his team ran off two straight wins, the Bills' impetuous owner figured the coast was clear and showed up at midfield Sunday for a halftime ceremony. (Updated: 11/02/09 1:05 AM )
Sullivan: Humility is in the blood for Byrd
Gill Byrd played 10 seasons in the NFL, all with the San Diego Chargers. He was a cornerback, a two-time Pro Bowler. He holds the Chargers' career record with 42 interceptions. Byrd knows a thing or two about playing defensive back. The first requirement is an ability to put the bad plays behind you. (Updated: 11/02/09 1:05 AM )
Sullivan: Catavolos is more than a coach to Bills' DBs
A few weeks ago, before the Jets game, George Catavolos walked over to his strong safety,
George Wilson, and pointed to the flags atop Giants Stadium. Then he pointed to some other
flags fluttering in the opposite direction at field level. (Updated: 11/18/09 6:39 AM )
