Edward P. Hettich, 93, former IRS chief of collections in Buffalo

Edward P. Hettich, former chief of collections for the Internal Revenue Service in Buffalo, died Wednesday in his Eggertsville home. He was 93.
Mr. Hettich was a graduate of West Seneca High School and the University of Buffalo.
He served in U. S. Army during World War II, stationed with the Allied Command Offices in London and Paris from 1941 to 1944.
He had a 30-year career with the IRS. From 1967 until his retirement in 1974, he was chief of collections in Buffalo.
Mr. Hettich was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church Holy Name Society; Amherst Post 49, AMVETS; Swiftwater Power Squadron; and the Carroll Rod and Gun Club. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a longtime Buffalo Bills and University at Buffalo Bulls season ticket holder.
Mr. Hettich loved his time on his boat and spent many summers cruising the Erie Canal.
His wife of 52 years, Rita K. Bird Hettich, died in 1993.
Mr. Hettich is survived by two sons, E. Paul and James J., and a sister, Wilma Zimmerman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a. m. Saturday in St. Joseph-University Catholic Church, 3269 Main St.
