Hollowith Blue, 40-year veteran of Army and Army Reserve

Hollowith Blue, who served for more than 40 years in the Army and the Army Reserve, died Saturday in his home in the Town of Tonawanda after a long illness. He was 77.

Born in Sanderson, Fla., he graduated from high school in Lake City, Fla., in 1950 and entered the Army later that year. He served on active duty for 6z years in Greenland, Alaska and Fort Eustis, Va.

After he was discharged and became a reservist in 1957, he came to Buffalo. He was hired by the Army Reserve in an administrative capacity in 1961. He retired from the military as a chief warrant officer fourth class in 1992 and retired from the Army Reserve as a civilian a year later.

Following his retirement, he became a member of the First Buffalo Soldier Committee and coordinated an exhibit on the role of black soldiers at Buffalo &Erie County Naval and Military Park. He also was a graduate of the Town of Tonawanda Citizen Police Academy.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, the former Fairy M. Daye; a son, Duane H.; and a daughter, DeReese.

Services will be at 4 p. m. Saturday in Amigone Funeral Home, 2600 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda.
