Sculptors will replace missing angel
NEW YORK—A missing angel will be returning to a New York City cemetery.
Five sculptors have been chosen to submit designs for a new “Angel of Music” in Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery. The winning design will be unveiled in October.
The 4-foot, 10-inch-tall marble statue mysteriously vanished more than 50 years ago from the gravesite of 19th century American composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk.
Photos of the missing statue show the angel’s left hand held a tablet and had a trumpet tucked under one arm. Her right hand was extended as if leading an orchestra. A classical lyre was at her feet.
The sculptors are the New York City team of Jill Burkee and Giancarlo Biagi, Florida’s Myra Weisgold, Colorado’s Kirsten Kokkin and Indiana’s Tuck Langland.
