NEW PALTZ (AP)—A Warren County man who shot himself in the head during a traffic stop on the Thruway in the Hudson Valley has died.

State police said Andrew Philion, 48, of Queensbury, died Tuesday evening at Westchester Medical Center. He had been in critical condition since shooting himself in the head Monday afternoon after being pulled over by a state trooper for driving erratically in the northbound lanes of Interstate 87 near Exit 18 at New Paltz.

Police said the trooper was sitting in his patrol car checking out Philion’s license and registration when Philion shot himself with .45-caliber handgun.
