Gunpowder explosion causes burns to boy, 14

BERNE (AP)—A 14-year-old boy in upstate New York has suffered burns to his face, arms and hands after gunpowder and gasoline he was playing with exploded.

The incident happened Saturday in the Albany County town of Berne.

Sheriff’s deputies said Donald Youngs and three friends set gunpowder and gasoline on fire in the the woods, causing an explosion. A passing motorist called 911.

The injured teenager was taken to Westchester Medical Center, where he was in guarded condition Sunday.

There were no arrests, but the Sheriff’s Office was still investigating.
