Health care is focus of Slaughter message
Rep. Louise M. Slaughter of Fairport was one of the many House members to take the stage Wednesday, delivering a brief but impassioned call for Democratic leadership on health care.
“Forty-seven million Americans are uninsured — 9 million are children — and that is a national disgrace,” Slaughter said.
She noted that Democrats in Congress passed bills to ensure that senior citizens can continue seeing their doctors and to provide coverage to millions of uninsured children. John McCain opposed those bills, she said, while Barack Obama is offering a strong national health care plan. “Barack Obama’s plan will provide all Americans with better choices and lower prices,” Slaughter said. “John McCain’s health plan is just more of the same.”
