Rosary crusade

The 29th annual Rosary Crusade for World Peace will be held from 2 to 3:30 p. m. Sunday in Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Road, Lewiston, with Monsignor J. Thomas Moran, pastor of St. Bernard Parish, Youngstown, serving as moderator.

The Rev. James Fugle, parochial vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Niagara Falls, will be homilist.

Free rosaries will be distributed.

Archbishop to visit

The Rev. Timothy M. Dolan will make his first visit to Buffalo since being installed in April as the 10th archbishop of the Archdiocese of New York.

Dolan will be among the honorees at the 2009 Cure of Ars dinner Nov. 8 in the Hyatt Regency Buffalo. The Galasso Foundation, which provides tuition aid for seminarians at Christ the King Seminary in Aurora, also will be honored.

Dolan was archbishop of Milwaukee prior to his move to New York.

He will preside at a solemn vespers service in St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., prior to the dinner.

Author-host to speak

Catholic author and syndicated talk show host Teresa Tomeo will give a talk at 7:15 p. m. today in Holy Angels Church, 384 Porter Ave.

The former secular journalist hosts “Catholic Connection” and is a columnist for Our Sunday Visitor. She also is author of “Noise:How Our Media Saturated Culture Dominates Lives and Dismantles Families.”

Prayer shawl ministry A prayer shawl ministry gathering will be offered from 9:30 a. m. to 3:30 p. m. Oct. 17 at St. Columban Center, 6892 Lakeshore Road, Derby.

Sister M. Elizabeth Mackowiak, a Felician Franciscan and associate director at St. Columban Center, will be the facilitator. Those who plan to attend are advised to bring their knitting or crocheting supplies, a finished prayer shawl, a medium spiral-bound notebook to use as a journal and a pattern to share.

The cost is $38 and includes lunch. To register, call the center at 947-4708.

Choir plans meetings

The Gospel Conference Choir of Buffalo and Erie County will present a conference Friday and next Saturday in Coldspring Church of God in Christ, 107 Verplank Ave.

Evangelist Velma C. Jones will be speaker at 6 p. m. Friday, and workshops will be held from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. next Saturday, followed by a conference choir at 6 p. m.

Blessing of animals

A blessing of the animals will be held at 3 p. m. Friday at Hilbert College, in the college’s St. Anthony’s Cove, near the rear of Bogel Hall.

Deacon Dennis Conroy, dressed in traditional Franciscan attire, will conduct the blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures.

The college also will host a peace walk at 12:30 p. m. Oct. 5, starting at Franciscan Hall. The events are part of St. Francis Week at the Franciscan college.
