The months of May and June are monumental in a high schooler’s career. They signify the end of the school year, a time when the weather starts to break, giving way to sunnier mornings, shorts, and the revival of flip-flops. It’s also a time to buckle down and cram for decisive exams.

A week filled with soccer practice, drama club and SAT prep doesn’t leave much time for mother-daughter bonding. When was the last time just you and your mom really had a meaningful discussion over something besides curfew? As Mother’s Day draws closer, a group of West Seneca mothers and daughters have found something memorable to bond over: great literature.

Ever since Julia Nawrocki was 4 years old and her family adopted two Italian greyhounds to save them from puppy mills, animals have been her life. Thursday’s Feist concert at the University at Buffalo’s Center for the Arts proved that with a great show, sometimes less is more. No lasers, smoke machines or pyrotechnics were needed to give concertgoers an event that was memorable and thrilling.
