THURSDAY, 3:30p.m.:“The External World (When a Stranger Appears): On Hannah Arent, Performance and Poetry,” UB Poetics Program lecture by Fred Moten, associate professor of English at Duke University. Poetry Collection, 420 Capen Hall, UB North Campus.

THURSDAY, 7p.m.:Reading and book signing with novelist Derek Nikitas, a Western New York native and author of “The Long Division,” a mystery set in this region. Nikitas teaches writing at Eastern Kentucky University. Talking Leaves Books, 3158 Main St.

THURSDAY, 7p.m.:Reading and book signing by Buffalo native Greg Ames, author of “Buffalo Lockjaw,” recently named best first novel by the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association. Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo State College, 1300 Elmwood Ave.

THURSDAY, 7:30p.m.: Jewish Community Book Fair reading and book signing by Roslyn Bernstein, journalism and creative writing professor at Baruch College and author of “Boardwalk Stories,” a new collection of short stories. THURSDAY, 8p.m.:UB Poetics Program reading by poet/critic Fred Moten, author of “In the Break: The Aesthetics of the Black Radical Tradition” (University of Minnesota Press, 2003), “I ran from it and was still in it” (Cusp Books, 2007), and “Hughson’s Tavern” (Leon Works, 2008).
