Sidewalk art

What: Chalk Off Why: Celebrate summer and the rituals of childhood with a sidewalk chalk mural, scrawl of opaque poetry, or other artwork. Gettin’ twiggy with it

What: Twig People Why: Learn how to bind and tie branches, twigs and sticks to create beautiful shapes in the form of people, transforming them by using novelty yarns, beads and clay faces. What else: The two-hour program, held at Knox Farm State Park, is aimed at 8-to 12-year-olds. If necessary, workshop projects can be picked up or finished later in the week. Nation celebration

What: The 164th Tuscarora National Picnic and Field Days Why: It’s another nation, but you don’t need a new passport to get there. What else: Live music, horseshoe tournament, smoke dancing, a baby pageant, a 5K run and more, kicked off with breakfast at 7:30 a. m.
