Roswell Park Cancer Institute will present “Cancer in the Classroom,” a joint program designed to help individuals who make up a child’s support network understand the unique challenges a child faces when diagnosed with or fighting cancer. It will be held from 7:30 a. m. to 3:15 p. m., Thursday at Michael’s Banquet Facility, 4885 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg. Topics include childhood cancer and its long-term effects, return-to-school challenges, and how children cope when a parent or sibling has cancer. The University at Buffalo’s Center for Children and Families is conducting a study for fathers of children with ADHD, ages 6 to 12 years, to determine whether a parenting program for fathers helps improve the functioning of those children. Once qualified, the family will receive additional psychological treatment or continue with the treatment and parenting strategies already being used. Psychological treatment includes parenting programs for the fathers and participation in structured soccer activities for the child. There is no charge for participating in the study or for psychological treatments. For more information, call 829-2244, Ext. 124.
