New chef

Steven Gedra is the new chef-owner of the Europa Bistro (484 Elmwood Ave.), and he’s announced two New Year’s Eve dinners to celebrate. The first, to be served at 6 p. m. involves six courses including Island Creek Oysters with Black Creek Osetra Caviar, champagne, Chestnut Porcini Soup and Braised Short Ribs and Duck Confit. The price is $65 per person.

The second dinner, to be served at 9 p. m., adds Salt Baked Cod to the menu. The price is $75.

New menu

The Lake Effect Diner (3165 Main St.) has introduced a new menu featuring locally raised, seasonal and made-from-scratch items. Owners Erin and Tucker Curtin tell us that the hormone-free beef comes from Raisin Acres Ranch in Franklinville. Poultry pancakes, the Curtins say, are made from a batter containing Kreher Farm eggs, baking powder, baking soda, yogurt and Sprite. (Sprite?)
