SOMETHING TO READ
“Matisse on the Loose” by Georgia Bragg; Delacorte Press ($16.99) Ages 8 to 12.
Bragg’s wild adventure involving an art forgery will hook you right from the opening sentences: “My family is like the sun. It’s dangerous to look right at them.”
The narrator is a sixth-grader named Matisse, a talented artist who spends a lot of time copying famous paintings at the museum where his mother is head of security. That’s how he ends up in trouble. Many of the laughs come from disasters involving his father’s barbecue business and his habit of wheeling whole pigs around town in odd-shaped, home-made grills.
– Jean Westmoore
