Dressing up the kids’ table
Updated: August 21, 2010, 3:02 AM
Here’s a project the kids will enjoy: crafting a turkey centerpiece.
All you need is a brown paper bag (we used a large-size lunch bag); construction paper (yellow, red, orange); white glue; and a red chenille stem for the turkey’s wattle (you can improvise with construction paper; how many people have red chenille stems around the house?).
Instructions: Have the kids trace their hands on several colors of construction paper and cut them out (we made about a dozen of them). These will become the turkey’s “feathers.”
Roll back the top edge of the paper bag and glue the feathers onto the back.
Cut out two wings (we made one orange and one yellow and added polka dots), head (orange and yellow) and pilgrim hat (blue with yellow band). Attach to bag as shown in the photo above. Add chenille wattle.
You can add a colorful napkin and fill the bags with nuts or other treats. A fun project for the whole family, this idea came from Woman’s Day.
