Faux fur, lace-up boots and more
Updated: August 16, 2010, 8:17 AM
Sure, the weather has been hot. But fall is coming and things are looking a little, well, shaggy.
Faux fur vests and jackets are popping up everywhere for the cooler days ahead in blends such as acrylic and polyester.
They're sporty looking, these "fantasy furs" as Macy's calls them. Macy's shows a white furry vest belted in black and paired with black skinny pants.
Other furry vests and jackets have been seen with striped long-sleeve tops or patterned sweaters, with blue jeans or cargo pants on the bottom. Boots anchor the look.
Warning: Your dog may think you have adopted another pet.
Fashion tip
Are you into this faux fur look? InStyle magazine's special Makeover issue lists the faux fur vest as one of its key pieces for fall.
Here's what the editors write: "Faux fur is almost as warm and light as the real thing, and it makes everything in your outfit a little more luxe.
"Layer under a coat to get a nonbulky boost of warmth, or throw it on with jeans to add instant polish."
Happy trails
Here's something else on InStyle's fall must-have list? Lace-up boots.
"Set on stacked heels and sporting serious buckles, this novel take on the hiking boot is city-friendly -- and versatile," reports the magazine's Makeover issue, on stands now.
How to wear the lace-up boot? "It looks romantic with a calf-grazing skirt and modern with slim-fit cargos."
You'll want to tuck in your pants when you wear these.
Easy does it!
A makeup tip for girls from Teen Vogue's Eva Chen: Don't try to look too old too fast:
"Teenagers have this glow, this beauty, that adults try to reproduce. They are very lucky to have it. Don't cover it up!"
Her other tips:
- Nail polish in neon pink, green or blue looks fun and playful on girls.
- Red lips aren't appropriate for a tween or even many teens.
- If you're going to wear mascara, learn to wear it right.

And finally ...
"No woman can be well-dressed unless she is comfortable in what she is wearing."
