Health care forum

A conference on “Quality Health Care in a Religiously Diverse World” will be held from 8:30 a. m. to 3 p. m. Wednesday in the Castellani Art Museum on the campus of Niagara University.

A morning session will begin with a presentation by Dr. David Holmes, of the University at Buffalo’s Department of Family Medicine, on “Spirituality and Medicine.” The Rev. Amos Acree, director of parish nursing at the United Church Home, will discuss “Spirituality and Patient Care as Seen by a Nurse.”

There will be small group sessions devoted to medical and health care concerns from a variety of faith perspectives.

An afternoon program will include a presentation on the care of patients who are nonbelievers, including humanists, atheists and others.

Twelfth Night services

First Presbyterian Church, 100 Church St., Youngstown, will present a celebration of the Twelfth Night at 5 p. m. on Sunday.

The boar’s head pageant will include carols, the lighting of the torch and the procession of the kings.

King Mass scheduled

Sister Roberta Fulton, president of the National Black Sisters Conference, will provide the reflection at the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Mass at 10:30 a. m. Jan. 18 in Blessed Trinity Church, 317 Leroy Ave.

Bishop Edward U. Kmiec will be main celebrant and the Rev. Roy Herberger, pastor of St. Columba&St. Brigid parish, will be the homilist.

A reception featuring a display of various African- American quilts will follow the Mass.

Young Catholics conference

The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo will host a training conference Jan. 19 and 20 at Christ the King Seminary in Aurora aimed at getting young adult Catholics more engaged in the church.

The conference will kick off an 18-month initiative called the Millennial Milestones Project.

Clergy and parish leaders of faith formation, young adult ministry, baptismal and marriage preparation, and others are invited. There is no cost to attend the conference, and overnight accommodations are available if needed.

Gays and religion

“Soul Searching: The Gay and Lesbian Religious Experience,” a series of classes, will be offered in First Presbyterian Church at Paine and Main streets in East Aurora beginning at 9:30 a. m. Sunday in the church lounge.

The classes, led by Pastor Langdon “Buddy” Hubbard, will explore what the Bible says and does not say about homosexuality, as well as cultural, scientific and historical understandings of homosexuality.
