Final Mass to be held

A final Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 2135 Seneca St., will be held at 4 p. m. next Saturday, with the Rev. James B. Cunningham as main celebrant.

The Rev. Peter Drilling, president and rector of Christ the King Seminary in Aurora, will deliver the homily.

Clergy formerly assigned to St. John the Evangelist also will participate. The church is merging with St. Teresa’s parish.

Prayer service set

An interfaith remembrance service will be held from 2 to 4 p. m. Sunday in Sacred Heart Home, 4520 Ransom Road, Clarence, with a reception to follow in the chapel foyer.

The service of music, readings, prayers and blessings will celebrate the lives of people with dementia and their caregivers. It is sponsored by the spiritual advisory committee of the Alzheimer’s Association.

A parish milestone

The 100th anniversary of the first liturgy offered at St. Agatha parish will be celebrated at the 10 a. m. Mass on Nov. 22 in the church at 65 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

The parish, originally called All Souls, was founded in 1909, and Masses originally were celebrated in a private home on Germania Street.

The Nov. 22 event does not commemorate the parish’s 100th anniversary. The parish is not yet 100 years old, because it was closed for a few years and later reopened.

Youth rally planned

A Eucharistic Youth Rally sponsored by St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Olean will be held at Archbishop Walsh Academy today and Sunday.

About 200 teenagers from Western New York and Pennsylvania will be participating in praise, worship, talks, skits and group discussions.

The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Leo Patalinghug, a former competitive break dancer, four-time Tai Kwon Do champion, singer, teacher, world traveler and cook who is host of his own syndicated television cooking show, “Grace Before Meals.”

Women to gather

The women’s ministry of Mount Olive Baptist Church, in conjunction with the Ecumenical Committee of the Black Leadership Commission on AIDS of Buffalo, is sponsoring a women’s conference from 8:30 a. m. to 1:30 p. m. Nov. 21 in Mount Olive Baptist Church, 701 E. Delavan Ave.

Workshop facilitators are Detra

M. Trueheart, Antonia Gillison and Vickie Gillison.

Call 832-2088 or 830-6597 for details or to register.

Anniversary service set

Hillview Baptist Church, 26 Rehm Road, Depew, will celebrate its 55th anniversary as a congregation at a special service at 11 a. m. Sunday. The church began in 1954 in a garage on Hanwell Place. Gospel musicians Reg and Gretchen Dunneman will perform.

Peace Fair to be held

The second Buffalo Peace Fair will be held from 11 a. m. to 3 p. m. next Saturday in Catholic Academy of West Buffalo, 1069 Delaware Ave.

Local organizations committed to peace and social justice will be on hand for the fair, sponsored by Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the People of Peace at Pilgrim-St. Luke’s United Church in Christ.

A $1 donation will benefit the Western New York Peace Center.
