Corrine M. Swineford, a North Tonawanda native, and Tarek E. Petren were married at 6 p.m. May 17 in Duck Walk Vineyards, Southold, where a reception was held following the ceremony.

Swineford has lived in New York City since graduating from North Tonawanda High School. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in advertising and communication.

The couple chose the Hamptons location because they love the wines and atmosphere. The vineyard is also pet-friendly, which meant that their two dogs, Clover and Twiggy, could attend the ceremony. They both wore a green ribbon with pink flowers, the colors of the wedding.

Swineford walked down the aisle with her cousin, Robert Shugarts, as Stevie Wonder’s “Sign, Sealed, Delivered” played.

The Rev. Sarah Wilson, of the New Seminary in New York, heard the couple’s vows.

The bride is the granddaughter of Margaret Epolito of North Tonawanda. Her mother is the late Kathylne G. Swineford, who passed away after a battle with brain cancer in October 2011. In honor of her memory, the couple planned for 24 pink lady butterflies to be released during the ceremony.

“It was very emotional not having her there, but we knew she was watching over us. She loved butterflies, and that is why we did it,” Swineford said. Her mother’s best friend from high school read a poem to accompany the release.

The bridegroom’s parents are Thomas C. and Ellen M. Petren of Lanoka Harbor, N.J.

The couple first met at an event for young business professionals in 2008. Petren lived in Hoboken, N.J., at the time, while Swineford lived in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where the two now live together.

After working outside the fashion world for many years, Swineford is now an executive assistant for fashion designer Reem Acra, who designed a full-length, light pink veil to match the bride’s Oleg Cassini dress.

The groom is a graduate of Portsmouth Abbey School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and is a senior clinical research associate at Cu-Tech Llc.

The couple is now honeymooning in Maui, Hawaii. This is their first time in Maui but have been to other islands multiple times together. They hope to someday retire to the tropical state.
