Q: I’m confused. Will the character Agent Carter be added to “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” next season, or will that be a show of its own? – Mike Stephens, Palm Coast, Fla.
A: A show of its own, at midseason. ABC will use “Marvel’s Agent Carter” as a bridge between the two halves of the “S.H.I.E.L.D.” season, meaning fewer repeats of the latter series. Hayley Atwell will reprise the role of the World War II-era Peggy Carter, the part she first played opposite Chris Evans in the “Captain America” feature films.
Q: I’m a big fan of the Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore. Where did he start? – Sue Kelly, Buffalo
A: Somewhat amazingly, his entire professional life has been spent right where he is now. He graduated from college in 1986, the Weather Channel gave him a job that summer, and the rest is history that continues to develop every time there’s a major atmospheric event in the United States. Cantore earned his stripes again earlier this month by placing himself right in the line of fire of Hurricane Arthur on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
Q: I’ve been enjoying “The Night Shift.” Is it for summer only, or will it be back? – Trisha Stern, Bend, Ore.
A: The medical drama has ended its first season, but you’ll be glad to know that NBC has renewed it for a second. Presumably, it could go into the network’s schedule earlier next year if needed, but the assumption is that it will remain a summer show.
Q: I was interested to see Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory” in the crowd at Wimbledon, cheering on runner-up Eugenie Bouchard. Are they longtime friends? – Sharon Trask, Pawtucket, R.I.
A: In fact, they’re acquaintances of only recent vintage. The Canadian athlete is a “Big Bang” fan and the actor is a tennis fan ... and her manager got in touch with Parsons’ manager and invited the actor to sit in the players’ box at the tennis championship in England. The two celebrities began an email friendship that resulted in Parsons staying through the women’s final, and as ESPN analyst Chris Evert pointed out, he had to keep changing his flight back to America as Bouchard kept winning (though she finished as the runner-up).
