It’s the kind of thing one dreams about in January. A day at the beach. The sun, the sand, the sounds of seagulls, waves and the occasional shrieking child. The wardrobe is basic. Swimsuit, beach shoes, some sort of cover-up. Everyone is familiar with the other basics: Water bottle for hydration. Sunscreen for protection. Cooler for snacks. Safety and flotation devices for the kids. Music and magazines for the adults.
From there, the blue sky is the limit. You can make the experience as simple or as luxurious as you like.
You can take cover under a plain beach umbrella or invest in a cabana beach shelter with protective top, flooring and zippered mesh windows.
You can pack up simple beach toys for quiet sand-castle building or burn some calories and haul in a volleyball, beach bocce or spikeball game set.
It’s amazing how so many of these beach accessories break down and fold up at the end of the day – often in their own carry bags and some more easily than others.
