Could you do a triathlon?
It may not be as far out of reach as you think.
That’s because there are four distances:
• Sprint: 750-meter swim, 12- to 16-mile bike and 5K run
• Olympic: 1,500-meter swim, 24- to 26-mile bike and 10K run
• Half Iron: 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run
• Iron Man: 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.
“I’m doing my first Iron Man this year,” said Victoria Davis, 28, a health promotions specialist from Amherst.
Her most grueling event this year will take place July 27 in Lake Placid, so she will need to skip the Nickel City Triathlon in Buffalo the weekend before, on July 19. The local race includes competition at several distances.
Still, she plans to do two or three others, spaced out throughout the season. She, along with friends Nicole Bennett and Kendra Kramer, are all members of the Buffalo Triathlon Club, buffalotriathlonclub.com, which has more than 550 members. The three, who kept an indoor exercise regimen over this brutal winter, plan to start their season competition June 5 at the Keuka Lake Triathlon on June 8 in Penn Yan.
