Coffee is in high demand, especially at 7 in the morning at a local coffee shop drive-thru. But there’s a new place in town, and it serves gelato as well as coffee. Mimi’s Central Perk Café, located in the heart of the Village of Lancaster, serves soup, sandwiches, breakfast, gelato and, obviously, coffee. The shop has been open since August 2012 and is a popular hangout for people of all ages. It is run by husband and wife, Frank and Sherri Sikora.
The shop is absolutely adorable. It has outdoor dining as well as inside, and it features monthly performances by local musicians. Last time I was there, I could hardly get in because the line of people was out the door to listen to a guitarist. I love the warm, homey atmosphere. But enough about that – let’s talk about the food.
It’s incredibly delicious. A huge favorite is the chicken wing soup. I order it every time I go there (and I’ve been there at least 10 times in the past four months) and I recommend it to my friends that I bring with me, and they all agree it’s the best. Chicken noodle and cream of mushroom are two of the other soups they offer. Mimi’s just added chili to its menu, too. They also have beef on weck, barbecue pork sliders, chicken salad and tuna salad sandwiches, which are amazing. I’ve had everything on the menu, and I regret nothing.
They also serve wonderful croissants, bagels, muffins and cookies. I love their chai tea and iced cappuccinos.
They also carry delicious smoothies (like strawberry and caramel). Now, for the gelato. They have a variety of flavors, ranging from chocolate and vanilla to birthday bash and sea salt caramel. They also have mint chocolate chip, coconut and hazelnut, as well as seasonal flavors.
Everything is homemade, the food is reasonably priced, and the service is wonderful at Mimi’s. They also host small parties.
The shop is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and it is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The Sikoras are planning on extending their hours for the holidays.
