A benefit basketball game will be held to support Jacob Murphy, a sophomore at Sweet Home High School who sustained multiple injuries when he was hit by a car while crossing Niagara Falls Boulevard. Jacob began his recovery at Women & Children’s Hospital but has recently been transferred to a medical facility in Pittsburgh, where he is receiving therapy. The cost of care as well as trips to Pittsburgh have created a financial burden for his family. The fundraiser is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday. Rob Ray and other Buffalo Sabres alumni will play against Sweet Home staff members. Admission is $5.

ARTS AND WRITING CONTEST

The Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo is holding is annual Arts and Writing Contest for students in grades seven through 12. Entries in either writing for visual arts should focus on the theme, “Stand Up – Don’t Stand By.” Prizes will be awarded for each category in each grade. Deadline is April 11, 2014.
