Personal Best, a modeling and talent school in Buffalo, is searching for students ages 11 to 19 to participate in the Western New York Young Performers Showcase, which will be held Feb. 2 in the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. The competition is open to individual dancers, singers, actors, musicians and other performers. More than $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, with part of the proceeds to be donated to Women & Children’s Hospital. For more information, call Susan Makai at 831-3870.

The following piano students of Mary Handley, of Amherst, received awards at the Burlington Rotary Music Festival Competition:

• Jarod Yap, 13, a freshman at Clarence High School, won four gold medals and was awarded a $250 scholarship as the Most Promising Senior Pianist.

• Johanna Fritzinger, a student at Williamsville South High School, won three gold medals and received a $200 scholarship.

• Jimmy Featherstone, 15, a student at Williamsville South High School, won three gold medals and received a $200 scholarship.

• Michael McClure, 12, a student at Elmwood Franklin School, won three gold medals and received a $200 scholarship.

OPEN HOUSE

Niagara University in Lewiston will hold a holiday-themed open house beginning at 3 p.m. Friday. Prospective students can attend a holiday dinner along with an informational presentation on academics, financial aid and the application process.
