Today, 2 p.m.: Buffalo State College’s Writing Major program hosts a reading and launch party for the 2014 edition of Elm Leaves Journal: The Wild Edition, featuring poetry and fiction readings by Greg Lawless, Ed Taylor, Matt Bookin, Gary Percesepe and Barbara Cole. Elm Leaves Journal, edited by BSC English professor Kim Chinquee, now publishes a diverse selection of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and book reviews by authors from both within and outside Buffalo State College community. Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Lewiston Arts Café Poetry and Music Series featuring poet E.R. Baxter III and singer, songwriter and guitarist Alison Pipitone. Baxter, a professor emeritus of English at Niagara County Community College, is the author of “Looking for Niagara” (Slipstream Press), “Niagara Lost and Found: New and Selected Poems” (Abyss Publications) and the award-winning creative nonfiction essay collection “Niagara Digressions” (Starcherone Books). Wednesday, 7 p.m.: Book talk and book signing with Brown University based scholar/historian David Kertzer, author of “The Pope and Mussolini: The Secret History of Pius XI and the Rise of Fascism in Europe” (Random House), a groundbreaking new book based on seven years of research in Vatican and Fascist archives that changes our understanding of the Vatican’s role in the rise of Fascism in Europe.
