News of the day for ‘Today’
“Today” host Savannah Guthrie has a new daughter.
Vale Guthrie Feldman was born Wednesday morning, weighing in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces. The “Today” anchor gave birth in a New York hospital with husband Mike Feldman by her side.
The big news was delivered by Guthrie co-anchor Matt Lauer on Thursday’s edition of the NBC morning show.
Guthrie and Feldman, a communications strategist, were married in March. The new bride used her wedding as the occasion to announce that she was expecting her first child.
Prison memoir release date set
The real-life Alex Vause of “Orange Is the New Black” is ready to tell her story.
Cleary Wolters has a deal with HarperOne for the memoir “Out of Orange,” scheduled for May 2015.
In a statement released Thursday to the Associated Press, the publisher said that Wolters’ book would tell of her time in prison and her “complicated” relationship with Piper Kerman, Wolters’ former friend and lover.
Kerman’s “Orange Is the New Black” was a best-selling prison memoir adapted into the video series that has been a sensation on Netflix.
Wolters said that her life was “an unbelievable saga” with a surprising new chapter. On the Netflix show, Vause is played by Laura Prepon. Taylor Schilling stars as Piper Chapman, the stand-in for Kerman.
Film Allman faces fine
Federal workplace safety regulators have issued citations against a movie production company in a Georgia train crash that killed a camera assistant and injured six others while they were shooting a biographical film about singer Gregg Allman.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Thursday proposed $74,900 in fines against Film Allman LLC, a company incorporated in 2013 to make the movie “Midnight Rider.”
The crew was shooting on a railroad bridge in rural Wayne County on Feb. 20 when a freight train plowed into the workers, killing 27-year-old Sarah Jones.
Film Allman LLC has the same address as Unclaimed Freight Productions, owned by director Randall Miller and his wife, Jody Savin. They have been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the crash.
A Swift announcement
Tune-in alert: Taylor Swift is performing at the MTV Video Music Awards. Swift made the announcement Wednesday night on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.” It will be the pop star’s fourth time performing on the show.
Neither Swift nor a Thursday news release gave details about what she plans to perform, but new music is likely as the singer prepares to release a new album. She has a livestream scheduled for Monday, presumably to announce details.
The 24-year-old pop star has an always-memorable relationship with the show, from arriving in a princess carriage to troubles with Kanye West and an on-air hug from Beyoncé.
Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande and Maroon 5 also will perform on the Aug. 24 MTV broadcast from Los Angeles.
