Menzel to sing anthem
Idina Menzel is bringing Broadway to baseball.
The Tony-winning performer will sing the national anthem at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday in Minneapolis. Menzel will also perform during the pregame ceremony.
The game at Target Field will air on Fox, and country singer Joe Nichols will sing “God Bless America.”
MLB All-Star Week will also include a Saturday concert by Grammy-winning rockers Imagine Dragons at the TCF Bank Stadium.
A day later, Panic! At the Disco will perform at the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game at Target Field.
Singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc will hit the stage at the Home Run Derby on Monday. It will air on ESPN.
Bieber charged with vandalism
Justin Bieber was charged Wednesday in Los Angeles with one count of misdemeanor vandalism in an egg-throwing incident in January that damaged a neighbor’s home, Los Angeles prosecutors said.
The Grammy-nominated singer wasn’t present for the arraignment at Superior Court in Van Nuys, district attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said.
Prosecutors spent months considering whether to file charges. A detective wrote that a person matching Bieber’s description was seen high-fiving his friends after running toward a neighbor’s home, but footage of the egg attack was not captured.
Sheriff’s detectives estimated the damage to the home at up to $20,000.
Julien worked her way up
How do you prepare to be a survivalist-in-the-buff on “Naked and Afraid”? One way: You start at the bottom and work up.
“I walked around barefoot for months,” said Dani Julien, who then spent 21 days undressed in the wilderness on the popular Discovery Channel reality show.
Julien and three fellow self-described survival experts appeared, fully clad, on a panel Wednesday at the summer TV critics’ tour.
Quickly enough, the question arose: Why?
“This is who we are,” replied Jeff Zausch. “This is what we’re made of. We were made to push the limits of what’s humanly possible.”
Asked his reaction to the selective pixilation imposed on his own naked form in the show, Justin Bullard voiced one complaint.
“They could have made the blur-spot bigger,” he joked.
Kardashian hits Jersey shore
Kim Kardashian is playing Jersey shore tourist.
Kardashian and her friend Jonathan Cheban went on rides on the Casino Pier in Seaside Heights and stopped for frozen custard Tuesday.
Her rep told the Asbury Park Press they were taping segments for the series “Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons.”
Police were called as more than 2,000 people gathered on the Seaside Heights boardwalk to catch a glimpse of Kardashian after she had dinner on Monday.
Seaside Heights was the setting for MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”
