Hough has honest relationship

Julianne Hough was a lot more closed-off during her two-year relationship with Ryan Seacrest, which ended last spring, than she is with current beau Brooks Laich.

“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right. I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers,” Hough said in the August issue of Redbook.

“I needed to be perfect. But now I’m not holding anything back, because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?”

The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro said she had an “epiphany” about relationships last November when her family attended a six-day seminar about “creating your own destiny.”

“I was not into it at first, but I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn’t work that by the end I was on a high,” she said. “I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [texted them, saying]: ‘You are nice, but this is going nowhere.’ ”

The next day, she got introduced to Laich, a 31-year-old hockey player.

“It couldn’t have been a better time,” said Hough, 25. We’ve been open and honest from day one.”

Father of quintuplets on trial

A North Las Vegas man who gained media attention when his wife gave birth to quintuplets last fall is scheduled for a February trial in an alleged real estate scheme.

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said 43-year-old Deon Derrick Derrico and his 23-year-old co-defendant Olujuwon Devin Bryant are accused of forging homeowners’ signatures on deeds to obtain abandoned homes and rent them for a profit.

Derrico and Bryant have pleaded not guilty to multiple charges including theft and fraud. They are scheduled for a trial Feb. 17.

Derrico gave numerous enthusiastic interviews to the media after the five babies were born Sept. 6. He and his wife, Evonne, also have four other children and received an outpouring of donations for their care.

Jewel divorcing after 16 years

Singer Jewel and her husband are divorcing after a 16-year relationship.

The 40-year-old writes in a letter posted on her website that she and Ty Murray want their separation “to be nothing less loving than the way we came together.”

A representative for the singer confirmed the news Wednesday.

Jewel and Murray were married in 2008. They have a son named Kase.

Jewel says she decided to write the post – called “Dear World” – to inform her fans before the news broke in the tabloids.

Her hits include “You Were Meant for Me,” “Foolish Games” and “Intuition.” Her 1995 debut album, “Pieces of You,” has sold more than 12 million units in the United States.
