Prince to do ‘New Girl’ cameo
Fox’s post-Super Bowl party will include Prince making a guest appearance on the comedy “New Girl.”
In an episode of the show that will air directly after the big game next month, Zooey Deschanel’s character is invited to a mansion party hosted by Prince – a party her friends are determined to crash.
Fox will also air an episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” that night after “New Girl,” with the show fresh off its Golden Globe award for best comedy.
The Super Bowl is traditionally the most-watched TV event of the year, so the time slots after it are considered prime real estate.
McVie to rejoin Fleetwood Mac
For those of you who haven’t stopped thinking about a tomorrow when Christine McVie returns to Fleetwood Mac, your wishes have been granted.
The return of McVie, a songwriting and vocal linchpin of the group, was confirmed onstage by the band’s Mick Fleetwood during a concert in Maui on Saturday. According to various sources, he told the crowd, “This is the worst-kept secret there is, but Christine McVie will be rejoining Fleetwood Mac.”
McVie, who wrote such Mac staples as “Don’t Stop” and “You Make Loving Fun,” had previously appeared with the group during a London concert last year.
Outkast extends comeback run
Outkast’s 20th anniversary comeback is being extended to more than 40 festival dates in 2014.
The Grammy-winning rap duo announced across its newly launched social media platforms Monday that it will play the dates, but not where. Andre “Andre 3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton announced last week they were performing together for the first time in 10 years at the Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival in April.
Critic expelled from Circle
Film critic Armond White has been expelled from the New York Film Critics Circle after allegedly heckling “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen at the group’s annual awards banquet.
The critics convened Monday and voted the CityArts critic out of the group. Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman, a member of the group, confirmed in an online post White’s expelling.
White reportedly yelled expletives at McQueen when he accepted the award for best director at last week’s New York Film Critics Awards.
New ‘24’ series to bow in May
Jack is back.
“24”, the hit series starring Kiefer Sutherland as embattled super spy Jack Bauer, is being resurrected as “24: Live Another Day” a 12-episode series that will debut May 5 on Fox. The original show ended in May 2010 after eight seasons.
“I’m as anxious and as frightened as I have been in a long time,” Sutherland said during a morning session at the Television Critics Association press tour promoting the project. He said “24” set a high standard that he hoped the new series could reach.
Also starring in the new series is Mary Lynn Rajskub, who will reprise her role as Chloe O’Brian, the often irritated tech whiz who assisted Jack.
