Cassidy charged with DWI

Authorities say former teen heartthrob David Cassidy was pulled over in upstate New York for failing to dim his headlights and charged with DWI after tests showed his blood-alcohol content at 0.10 percent, higher than the legal limit of 0.08 percent

Schodack Police Lt. Joseph Belardo says Cassidy was stopped shortly after midnight Wednesday about 10 miles south of Albany.

The charge is a felony because Cassidy, 63, has a 2011 conviction for driving under the influence in Florida. He lives in Fort Lauderdale but is staying in upstate New York for the racing meet in Saratoga.

The “Partridge Family” star is free on $2,500 bail. He’s due in Schodack Town Court on Sept. 4.

New series for Franco

James Franco is coming back to TV, but this time it’s not for a soap opera or the Academy Awards.

The Ovation channel said Wednesday that it’s joining with the actor-writer-filmmaker on a new series, “James Franco Presents.”

Ovation said the series will document Franco’s explorations of the art world, including his gallery exhibits and other “passion projects.” The prime-time series also will include Franco’s “heroes” in various areas of the arts, the channel said.

“James Franco Presents” will debut this fall on Ovation.

Hasselhoff signs in

David Hasselhoff is expressing dismay after learning that a Connecticut convenience store clerk was critically injured while trying to stop thieves from stealing signs featuring life-size images of him hawking iced coffee.

The former “Baywatch” and “Knight Rider” star has been promoting Cumberland Farms iced coffee since last year, and the signs have become popular items to steal, police say.

Hasselhoff tweeted about Tuesday’s robbery in Shelton, urging people to pray that the 36-year-old clerk makes a full recovery.

“I am shocked & truly saddened about the Cumberland farms store clerk tragedy,” Hasselhoff said in a posting on his official Twitter account. “My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with him and his family!”

The Cumberland Farms worker, whom authorities have not named, suffered a head injury when he was hit by the thieves’ SUV and dragged, police said. He remained hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday.

Performers engaged

One Direction has one less eligible bachelor. Band member Zayn Malik is engaged to Perrie Edwards of the group Little Mix. They’re both 20.

Edwards was spotted wearing a diamond ring Tuesday at One Direction film premiere “This Is Us” in London.

Edwards’ mother, Debbie, confirmed Wednesday that her daughter and Malik were engaged. She told Real Radio: “It’s true. They got engaged on Sunday, and it’s absolutely lovely.”

Columbia Records confirmed in a statement that “Zayn and Perrie are engaged, but any further detail regarding their relationship is private.”
