Trendy tails

High, low or pulled off to one side, ponytails continue to be a favorite springtime hairstyle. They’ve been spotted recently in photographs from the Kentucky Derby – yes, ponytails can work with those festive hats – as well as on celebrities at Hollywood premieres and award shows. It’s a style that’s ideal for a workout, but it also can be dressed up for proms, weddings and the red carpet. And, of course, you always see them on the fashion runways.

Among those sporting some version of the ponytail this spring: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge; news anchor Robin Meade; Broadway star Kelli O’Hara, and actresses Jessica Pare, Pauley Perrette and Sarah Gilman.

Open wide

It’s staying lighter longer, which means we aren’t always in such a hurry to close the draperies. One option for letting in light and fresh air: a tassel or other decorative tieback that gathers drapery panels to the center or sides of a window opening. Look for options where window treatments and fabrics are sold.

Easy does it

The relaxed pant, often wide-leg style, is back – whether you call them palazzo pants, soft pants or, as Macy’s does, the “billowy trouser.” Some also have slim legs.

Just two examples: Peter Som included slim- and wide-leg printed soft pants in his limited edition/limited time DesigNation collection for Kohl’s. And Macy’s features styles from Vince Camuto, MICHAEL Michael Kors, Bar III and Sanctuary in its spring catalog.

J. Jill, Chico’s, Anthropologie and other retailers show them as well.

And finally ...
