Ristorante Lombardo ???? (June 19) 1198 Hertel Ave. (873-4291; www.ristorantelombardo.com). Comfortable, sophisticated restaurant that serves classic and contemporary Italian cuisine now offers a three-course prix fixe dinner Monday through Thursday evenings.
Quaker Steak & Lube ?? (June 12) 6727 Transit Road, Lancaster (204-9293; www.quakersteakandlube.com). What hath the wing wrought! This chain started life modestly in 1974 in Sharon, Pa., and has become a glitzy colossus. It’s all about marketing, baby, but the place is noisy, busy and actually a lot of fun.
Sippy’s Restaurant ?? (June 5) 3455 Genesee St., Cheektowaga (631-0289). You don’t find too many restaurants that specialize in Italian, American as well as Indian food, but here’s one. A wide variety is offered in each ethnic category.
Verbena ??? (May 29) 930 Maple Road, Amherst (580-3125; www.verbenadining.com). There’s a new chef at this upscale restaurant, once the setting of the late Daffodil’s. There’s a handsome barroom and the food, basically of Mediterranean bent, is enlivened with creative and in-season touches.
Hayes Seafood House ??? (May 22) 8900 Main St., Clarence (632-1772; hayesseafoodhouse. com). Informal dining on super-fresh fish and seafood under the auspices of a family that has been in the business since 1877.
Caroline’s ??? (May 15) In the Glen Iris Inn, Letchworth State Park, Castile (585-493-2622; www.glenirisinn.com). Give it an A-plus for setting. The Glen Iris, former home of William Pryor Letchworth, has functioned as a country inn since 1914. Located in the middle of the magnificent park, it overlooks the falls and serves three meals a day in the dining room. Porch dining is also available. Reservations advised.
La Marina Market & Grille ??? (May 8) 1503 Hertel Ave. (834-9681). What was once a fish market and restaurant has now gone upscale and become primarily a restaurant. It continues to offer a wide variety of fish and seafood, cooked in many different ways.
