Lee, like the GOP, is using scare tactics
Updated: August 21, 2010, 1:23 AM
Although I didn’t vote for Christopher Lee as my representative in Congress, when he won, I had the audacity to hope that he would represent the people and not the Republican Party as did his predecessor. Unfortunately, his stance on health care reveals that he’s Republican all the way.
I received a very slick report from Lee in which he expresses his opposition to a publicly funded plan as an option to replace private insurance. Both he and I (Medicare) have care that is publicly funded. Except for the infamous doughnut hole (Bush’s administration) my health care is quite satisfactory. It hasn’t, as he predicts, wrecked my relationship with my doctor, an excellent internist whom I chose myself. I’d guess that Lee’s care is more than satisfactory, also.
The Republicans are promoting fear. They shout that old people will be killed; that the government will decide what treatments people may receive; that pregnant women will be forced to have government-funded abortions; what medications will be allowed; and so on ad infinitum. They also shout down legitimate town meetings run by Democratic congress people. Their actions are organized and funded by insurance firms and other interested corporations. Republicans killed a health care plan a few years ago and they are determined to reward businesses by killing this current one.
