More than 35 pounds of marijuana were seized Wednesday during simultaneous raids at about 10:30 a. m. Wednesday in the first blocks of Seventh and Titus streets, police said.

The raids resulted after authorities observed a pair of suspicious package deliveries at both addresses. Armed with search warrants, officers found that the packages contained the marijuana, as well as a small amount of heroin, police said.

Gerald Sanders, no age listed, a resident of an apartment at the Seventh Street address, was charged with felony first-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

The raids culminated a joint investigation by Buffalo police, U. S. postal inspectors and other area law enforcement agencies.

“The Buffalo Police Department will continue to work with every local, state and federal agency in order to track down the sources and suppliers of illegal narcotics substances in our city,” said Dennis J. Richards, chief of detectives.

“There will certainly be further investigation into the origination and the network that was set up to make these deliveries.”

Buffalo police were also assisted by detectives from the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Police and the Cheektowaga police.

The raids were led by Buffalo Police Lt. Paul R. Delano Jr. and Detective Sgt. Brenda M. Callahan-Moll, police said.
