SPCA outraged over condition of abandoned dog
Updated: October 11, 2011, 8:39 PM
NIAGARA FALLS -- SPCA of Niagara officials are seeking the owner of a Great Dane puppy found abandoned and suffering from one of the worst cases of animal starvation officials said they have ever seen.
The dog was found abandoned at 17th Street and Willow Avenue on Saturday, and stands a 50/50 chance of survival, SPCA Director John Faso said today. It was so weak from malnutrition that the hamstrings on its back legs locked up it couldn't stand, Faso added.
The puppy, estimated to be about six month old, is being cared for by an Erie County veterinarian who wishes to remain anonymous.
"I'm at a loss," Faso said. For someone to do that, they really went out of their way to treat an animal like that."
The SPCA would like to level charges against whoever abandoned the pup, and asks anyone with information to visit the agency's website at www.niagaraspca.org or call 731-4368.
