DWI suspect accused of giving police false name
Updated: August 21, 2010, 1:03 AM
A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Buffalo man early this morning, after he allegedly gave authorities a false identity and was found to be driving while intoxicated without a license.
Charlie R. Colon, of Sherwood Street, was driving in Evans when Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Warren Hawthorn stopped his vehicle on Southwestern Boulevard. Sheriff’s officials say that when Colon was asked his name, he initially gave someone else’s name. After further questioning, Colon gave his real name. It was then discovered that Colon was intoxicated and had a revoked driver’s license for a prior DWI, deputies said.
Police said Colon interfered with the entire interview and questioning, and was resistant to his pending arrest. He was transported to the Erie County sheriff’s station in North Collins, where he refused a chemical test. Colon was then transported to the Erie County Holding Center.
Colon was charged with DWI, aggravated and unlicensed operation of a vehicle, false personation, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, switched plates and numerous traffic violations.
