The Rotary International District 2009 named Pravin Suchak district governor. Pravin will be in charge of overseeing 74 Rotary Clubs in Western New York and Southern Ontario, Canada. He is currently a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Amherst North. He is also a founding member of Amherst Coalition for Diversity and has served as a trustee on the Amherst Museum Board and currently serves on the Town of Amherst Information Technology Advisory Committee.
New Era Cap Co., the Buffalo-headquartered headwear designer and manufacturer, named Steve Hazell vice president of New Era Europe. Hazell previously was general manager for Europe at K-Swiss and general manager retail at GSM.
Network in Aging, a non-profit, voluntary network of people committed to improving the quality of life for older persons in Western New York, has announced that Michael Olear of MJ Peterson Real Estate has received the 2009 “Jerry Flaschner Humanitarian Spirit Award.” Olear, a licensed associate broker, was cited for his work with the senior community by addressing the unique needs of older adults and their families in dealing with real estate issues. He also chairs the Network’s Communication committee and heads the Olear Realty Group, specializing in owner-occupied, residential real estate in Erie and Niagara Counties.

Kenmore Mercy celebrated the opening of its new outpatient entrance, located at the southwest corner of the hospital. The new entrance allows a more convenient entry point for patients, visitors, and hospital personnel to enter the hospital directly on the first floor. Designed by Kideney Architects, the $850,000 entrance features a two-story glass exterior, spacious lobby and covered drop-off lane.
Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston received another three-year accreditation from The Joint Commission, a national organization on hospital accreditation.
Patrick Development, a commercial contracting firm located at 8600 Transit Road in East Amherst, recently broke ground on a LEED certified, $3.8 million Campus and Community Center for Fredonia State College. Flynn Battaglia Architects, based in Buffalo, is the architect for the project. In addition, Patrick Development recently completed the $2.9 million, 7,700 square foot exterior restoration of the Darwin Martin House in Buffalo.

Bon-Ton has invited local nonprofit organizations to participate in its 10th annual Community Day event to be held on November 14. On August 2, local participating nonprofit groups will begin selling $5 Bon-Ton discount savings booklets to support their organization.
