Police looking for suspect in Amherst bank robbery
Updated: August 21, 2010, 10:02 AM
A man dressed as a woman robbed an Amherst bank this morning, but police have recovered at least some of the stolen cash.
The suspect entered the Citizens Bank branch at 3180 Sheridan Drive at about 9:50 a.m., and
demanded cash from one of the tellers, Amherst police said. No weapon was displayed, and no
one was injured.
The robber ran from the bank with an undetermined amount of money.
A Carmen Road resident then found near her property the suspect's purse with the stolen
cash inside. She turned it over to police.
It's unclear whether the purse contained some or all of the stolen money.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 20 years old,
wearing a woman's wig, oversized glasses and a burgundy shirt, possibly a windbreaker.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the bank robbery call the Amherst
detective bureau at 689-1333.
