An 8-year-old boy was fatally injured late this afternoon after he was hit by a car on Porter

Avenue, outside of the Niagara Branch Library.

The boy, whose name was not released, was with his brothers and sisters who left the library about 5 p.m. and headed toward Porter Avenue. The boy walked into the street and was hit by a blue Buick headed east on Porter.

Sources told The News that the boy was from a refugee family that lives in the 500 block of

Niagara Street and that the children were at the library all day

Friday as well as every other day this week.

West Side resident Tashira Osorio saw the accident from her car a half-block away.

"I was waiting for the red light and I saw him running from the library," Osorio said. "I

guess the car didn't see him and ran him over."

Emergency responders said the boy was unresponsive and not breathing and cardiopulmonary

resuscitation was administered as a Rural/Metro ambulance took him to Women & Children's

Hospital, where he died.

The driver of the car was being interviewed by police.
