Man accused of having 13-year-old sex slave is indicted
Updated: August 21, 2010, 9:52 AM
A Thomas Street man was indicted today on sex charges linked to four girls -- one, a 13-year-old runaway, allegedly used as his sex slave several months ago.
Michael Abdallah, 26, is charged with prostitution promotion, rape, criminal sexual act (sodomy), weapons, false statement and child endangerment. Jailed since mid-February, Abdallah was ordered by State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to remain jailed in lieu of $500,000 bail set by Buffalo City Judge James A.W. McLeod last month.
Frank Bogulski, Abdallah's attorney, entered not guilty pleas on his behalf. He also characterized the 13-year-old as a liar and said his client is not a flight risk.
The grand jury indicted Abdallah for alleged criminal conduct linked to four girls -- ages 13 to 17 -- through Dec. 19, 2009, when the 13-year-old, according to authorities, escaped from the defendant's home.
Abdallah faces a prison term of more than 50 years, prosecutors said.
Prosecutor Marni Bogart told the judge authorities have "grave concerns" that Abdallah will flee to Yemen. She also charged that Abdallah committed the crimes against the four girls while he was on probation for a 2008 weapons conviction.
The grand jury, according to prosecutor Rosanne Eimer Johnson, accused Abdallah of being sexually involved with two of the girls and pimping the other two girls as prostitutes.
