NEW YORK (AP)—Some state senators are telling Mayor Michael Bloomberg that more negotiations are needed before a law that gives him control of city schools is reauthorized.

The 2002 law expired at the end of June, during a Senate power struggle. Bloomberg has been urging the Legislature to pass mayoral control again before the new academic year starts.

A group of senators on Sunday said the mayor is trying to create an artificial crisis to get his authority extended.

Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser said no further negotiation is needed. He said the Senate leadership failed to keep a promise to bring the legislation to the floor for a vote.
