DWI charged after man plows into snowbank
Updated: August 21, 2010, 9:38 AM
An 18-year-old from West Seneca was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs early this morning after driving into a snowbank.
West Seneca Police Officer Michael Rybak saw a car changing lanes unsafely on Sharon Drive around 12:45 a.m. The car did not stop when he tried to pull it over, police said. After Rybak put his siren on, the car stopped after it hit a snowbank.
The driver appeared oblivious when the officer knocked on the driver's side window, according to police reports. When Rybak opened the car door and asked for the man's driver's license, registration and insurance card, the driver handed over documents that had nothing to do with the traffic stop.
The driver admitted smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at a friend's house. The officer found a bag of marijuana and a glass pipe in the car, along with two cans of Dragon Joose, a caffeinated alcoholic beverage.
Gabriel R. Stachowski was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of alcohol with the intent to consume, driving while intoxicated, and driving while ability impaired by drugs. He was released to his parents.
He is scheduled to appear in West Seneca Town Court on March 12.
