LOCKPORT—A Thruway toll taker from Cassadaga was spared jail time Friday in a felony driving while intoxicated case before Niagara County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.

John M. Walsh, 48, of Ulrich Park Drive, was allowed to have a conditional driver’s license so he can keep his job. Murphy also placed him on five years’ probation and fined him $1,000, on top of state-mandated surcharges which totaled $1,245.

Walsh was arrested July 28, 2008, in Niagara Falls, after he got drunk at his 30th high school class reunion. He was pulled over for failing to signal two turns, and his blood alcohol content was measured at 0.27 percent.
