Cheektowaga police seek suspect in fraud cases
Updated: August 21, 2010, 4:33 AM
Cheektowaga police are seeking the public’s help in locating a 55-year-old man named John Scafetta who also goes by the name John Phillips in connection with several recent frauds in the town.
Police said Scafetta is traveling with a woman and a younger male whom he introduces as his wife and son.
Scafetta, police said, is a con man who recently has talked his way into staying at local hotels for free and claims to sell advertising to local businesses and then collects money from them only to leave town without providing service for the money collected.
Anyone who believes they did business with Scafetta is asked to contact police at 686-3923.
Scafetta is described as 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 inches tall, weighing about 240 to 250 pounds with brown hair. His wife, Debbie, is described as 6 feet tall, 140 to 150 pounds, in her 40s with short blond hair.
