to English critic, essayist and reformer

John

Ruskin, born on this date in 1819, “When a man is wrapped up in himself, he makes a pretty small package.”

My Love My love is a red, red rose. My love is a package of stylish new clothes.

My love is champagne and a great dinner out.

All these presents, my love, Is what they say love’s about.

My love is a box of the best kind of candy.

Yes, all of these things are

surely fine and dandy. My love is a sparkling diamond

Or a trendy faux fur coat,

But love, my wants are simple—

Just hand over the remote! —Diana Notaro
