Sexy soul
Updated: August 21, 2010, 12:42 AM
There are very few men who could successfully cover Kate Bush. Maxwell is one of them. A seminal force in the world of ’90s soul, Maxwell has been composing and performing since he was a teenager. And other than that and his notorious (in a good way) cover of Bush’s “This Woman’s Work” on “MTV Unplugged,” he has become well known for something slightly less related to music: sexiness.
Music is important to concerts, but sexiness is way more important. After all, you don’t have to go to a show to listen to someone’s music—you go to see the performer. This is why Maxwell’s concert on Sunday in Shea’s Performing Arts Center (646 Main St.) is sure to get under your skin (again, in a good way).
Maxwell has just released his first studio album since 2001, “BLACKsummers’night,” so though the artist has been on the scene for well over a decade, he’s bound to have renewed energy when he comes to Buffalo. The show starts at 7:30 p. m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $125 (Ticketmaster, box office). See www.sheas.org for details.
